Line of Events

Charlotte names the spider Sting after seeing a copy of J.R.R. Sting is not the name of a spider in The Hobbit, but rather the sword Bilbo uses to fight spiders.

Although it’s supposed to take place in New York, the Australian scene comes through, door handles are about 3 feet off the ground in the US. In the street view, cars are parked on the "wrong side" of the streets compared to the US. Frank: I don’t think spiders make good pets. You know, spiders don’t have the ability to love.

The film exceeded my expectations
Last night I saw the new Australian film 🇦🇺 Sting (2024) in theaters. The story revolves around an alien comet that crashes to Earth and lands in a nondescript New York house during a snowstorm, releasing a spider that threatens the family and everyone around them. This picture was written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner (Wyrmwood 1 & 2) and stars Alyla Browne (True Spirit), Tony Black, Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), Silvia Colloca (Van Helsing), and Ryan Corr ( Wolf Creek 2). The special effects are top notch, featuring impressive CGI, realistic corpses, and blood splatter.
I would give it a solid 65-7/10 and highly recommend it
The film delivers plenty of scary scenes along with a well-balanced infusion of comedy. Helga and Frank stand out as fantastic supporting characters who provide consistent laughs. While some of the kills could have been more creative, once the action gets going in the spider house, it becomes an exciting and enjoyable ride. In conclusion, Sting is a fun addition to the horror genre, reminiscent of films like 8 Legged Mad Men.
