My first review!
I read the Hughes trilogy years ago and really enjoyed the books. When I randomly scrolled through IMDB and came across SILO, I was instantly intrigued. I see some mixed reviews and some I can relate to, here’s my take on the first season. First of all, I love dystopian literature! The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological perspective on human nature in hypothetical situations.
It is not an adaptation in the sense that it follows the plot
My fascination with the trilogy was strengthened because Hughes managed to develop Orwellian ideas in a hypothetical framework that is relevant to the modern world. Depicting the development of the human psyche in dystopian situations is a challenging task. I think Hughes has done a fantastic job, SILO captures many of these points in a refreshing way. It is based on the books, but it really has to adapt to the viewer in the fast-paced world. Despite this, the series manages to capture the atmosphere of a society living in silos.
The acting for the main characters is excellent
Unlike the shallow stories of other shows, «SILO» has a wonderful blend of character development and atmospheric focus. My only issue with the show is the lack of atmospheric development. Juliet takes up a lot of screen time to track down and capture. They lack the atmospheric development of The Silo as a society. Of course, it should appeal to your target audience.
