Era il 1827 quando George Ballantine, figlio di un contadino, aprì un piccolo negozio di alimentari nel centro di Edimburgo e vi inserì anche una gamma di Whisky da proporre alla sua clientela più affezionata. Di lì a poco, visto il successo raggiunto dalla piccola bottega, nacque la George Ballantine and Son Ltd. Il resto è storia. Oggi il marchio Ballantine è uno dei più popolari al mondo, al punto da essere nominato il "marchio #1 in Europa" e il terzo più commercializzato al mondo. Il Blended Aged 12 Years, grazie alla sapiente fusione di acquaviti provenienti da circa cinquanta distillerie, tra cui Miltonduff e Glenburgie, è un whisky caratterizzato dall'incredibile eleganza e dal gusto avvolgente e speziato. Color oro antico brillante, al naso rivela note di sherry e frutta secca. Poi miele, caramello, erbe aromatiche e tabacco. In bocca, invece, è caldo e speziato, con bei rimandi di pasticceria e miele. Va assaporato rigorosamente da solo, liscio o con un cubetto di ghiaccio.
