GREEN DAY'S BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG WANTS TO RE-RECORD 'WARNING' ALBUM
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has said in a new interview with Rolling Stone that he would like to re-record the band's more experimental 2000 album, Warning. Warning was Green Day's sixth studio effort and featured the band recording with digital technology for the first time, while also incorporating new influences into the trio's sound. Armstrong explained, "I started getting into playing more acoustic guitar, and I really wanted to have more for Warning . . . I had been getting into listening to more of the Kinks and the Who, who found a lot of power in an acoustic song." Bassist Mike Dirnt told us a while back that acoustic guitars have always been integral to the band: ["When people think of us, they think of, you know, maybe our heavy guitars and the sounds that we've had on the records, but we've written most of our songs on acoustic guitars for years and years. When we wake up in the middle of the night to write a song, Billie doesn't run to his amp and plug in his guitar, you know? He picks up an acoustic guitar and starts, you know, jamming on it. You can play an acoustic guitar like an electric guitar, you know, i.e. Pete Townshend, and it can rock."] SOUNDCUE (:22 OC:it can rock.) Armstrong believes that Warning didn't properly capture the feel of the band, saying, "I’d like to go back and re-record that album . . . I want to go back and just do everything more live, because I think 'Minority' live is a lot better than it came out on the album. But that’s just one of those things that you think about too much." Green Day's 13th studio album, Father of All Motherf**kers, arrives on February 7th. The band will hit the road this June on the "Hella Mega" stadium tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
