Line of Events
The epic drama, set thousands of years after J.R.R., takes place before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and follows a group of familiar and new characters as they confront the reemergence of a long-feared evil in Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power features a cast and several actors who have completely transformed for their roles. Amazon’s original pitch to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings novels as new adaptations of the latter (actually retellings of Gospodar prstenova: Prstenova druzina (2001), Gospodar prstenova: Dvije kule (2002), and Gospodar prstenova: Povratak kralja (2003), but the Tolkien estate rejected the proposal.
The multi-language synchronicity is incorrectly listed as III
Amazon eventually acquired the rights on the condition that the series would be separate from Peter Jackson’s previous adaptations. Early ideas written by Tolkien included prequels featuring characters such as Aragorn, Gimli, and Gandalf, but the showrunners focused on important, untold events from the series’ novels rather than simple side stories, so it was agreed with the studio that the series would be set in Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle-earth (which explore the First and Second Ages, among other places), reviewed the Lord of the Rings novels. Rings and the appendices for parts and references to the Second Age in which they could write their story. The estate and several Tolkien scholars (including his grandson and novelist Simon Tolkien) were consulted about the inclusion of new characters and plot elements.
Tolkien’s creation myth “The Silmarillion”
King Durin is listed as “Durin II.” The opening titles are a musical series of materials arranged in various shapes, namely “The Music of the Ainur”; J.R.R. Starring in “The Critical Drunkard: Rings of Power – The Fandom War” (2022). We all know that liberties were taken with this series, so my assessment is not based on fidelity to the source material. Much of the show’s marketing was about the awakening.
I didn’t see anything like that
I didn’t roll my eyes or cringe at any sign of virtue. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but since it’s the beginning of a series, I almost expect a bit of chaos. There’s a lot going on, set-up, introductions, etc. But the characters and story are engaging, the cinematography is well done, and the soundtrack seems to fit…
Anyway, give it a try and decide for yourself
so I’m really excited to see where this series goes next. Watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in all of its most iconic roles, from Morfydd Clark in Saint Maud to Benjamin Walker in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and beyond.
