When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm in the library, the headline reads “Local Couple Victims of DUI”
Line of Events
An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. He wants to move away from the more sensual and romanticized undead that have taken over pop culture over the past quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.

The paper was reportedly printed in 1956, a time when the term “DUI” was not yet in use. References Trog (1970). Courtesy of Warner Records By arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & TV Licensing.
Well, that was disappointing
Having read the novel several times and having seen the 1979 series several times over the years, I was really looking forward to it. I understand that it is asking a lot to cram a book into a two hour movie, a lot of story and character background had to be sacrificed. All of our main characters are there, some visibly retooled to fit 21st century norms, but underdeveloped.
For example, not at all
The plot also takes many liberties, some seemingly for no apparent reason. I think if you had never read the book you wouldn’t know what you were missing. But the scariest thing about this movie is simple: if you’re a horror fan, it’s not scary.

Look it up if you want, but the broth in this soup is very thin. The last season of "What We Do in the Shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming debuts of the month.
